LoadingWeight and Balance

Centre of Gravity (CG)

The centre of gravity (CG) is the theoretical point at which the entire weight of the aircraft is assumed to be concentrated. For safe and stable flight, this point must fall within a specific range established by the aircraft manufacturer.

Key Points

  • •Calculated by dividing the total moment by the total weight.
  • •Must remain within forward and aft limits during all phases of flight, accounting for fuel burn.
  • •Affects aircraft longitudinal stability, stall speed, and elevator control effectiveness.

Exam Relevance

Calculating and verifying the CG is a mandatory pre-flight task, heavily tested in the loading and performance sections of the RPL and PPL exams.
