Immediately Reportable Matter (IRM)

An Immediately Reportable Matter (IRM) is an accident or serious incident that affects the safety of aircraft operations. Examples include death or serious injury, a missing aircraft, structural damage, or a breakdown of separation standards. IRMs must be reported to the Australian Transport Safety Bureau (ATSB) by telephone as soon as reasonably practicable, followed by a written report within 72 hours.
