Performancespeed limitations

Normal Operating Speed (Vno)

Normal Operating Speed (VNO) is the maximum structural cruising speed of an aircraft, marked by the top of the green arc on the airspeed indicator (ASI). Flight above this speed is only permissible in smooth air and must be conducted with caution. It is also referred to as the maximum structural cruising speed.

Key Points

  • •VNO marks the boundary between the green and yellow arcs on the ASI.
  • •Exceeding VNO in turbulent air can cause structural damage to the airframe.
  • •Flight between VNO and VNE is only permitted in smooth air conditions.

Exam Relevance

Candidates must know V-speeds and their associated ASI colour codings for safe operation and to answer instrument interpretation questions.
