Performancetake-off performance

Take-off Distance Required (TODR)

Take-off Distance Required (TODR) is the horizontal distance required from the commencement of the take-off roll to the point at which the aircraft reaches a height of 50 ft above the runway surface (the screen height). For light aeroplanes not exceeding 5,700 kg Maximum Take-off Weight (MTOW), this is the standard AFM reference. Obstacle clearance along the departure path is a separate consideration.

Key Points

  • •TODR must be equal to or less than the Take-off Distance Available (TODA).
  • •TODR increases significantly with higher density altitude, increased aircraft weight, and tailwinds.
  • •TODR is derived using the performance charts provided in the aircraft's flight manual.

Exam Relevance

Pilots must verify that the TODR does not exceed the Take-off Distance Available (TODA) under the prevailing ambient conditions to ensure a safe departure.
