Certified Air/Ground Radio Service (CA/GRS)

Certified Air/Ground Radio Service (CA/GRS) is an aerodrome-based radio information service operated at non-controlled aerodromes within published hours. It provides pilots with operational information relevant to the aerodrome but does not provide any separation services. Pilots retain full authority and responsibility for the acceptance and use of the information provided.

Key Points

  • •Operated on the assigned Common Traffic Advisory Frequency (CTAF) by certified radio operators.
  • •Provides confirmation of the correct CTAF, known traffic, weather conditions, and aerodrome operational information.
  • •Pilots retain full authority and responsibility for the acceptance and use of the information provided.
  • •CA/GRS does not provide separation services — it is an information service only.

Exam Relevance

PPL candidates must understand the role of a CA/GRS and that it provides information but does not relieve the pilot of separation responsibilities.
