Contingency Fuel
Contingency fuel is the amount of fuel required to compensate for unforeseen factors that could influence fuel consumption to the destination aerodrome. These factors include deviations from forecast meteorological conditions, extended delays, and deviations from planned routings.
Key Points
- •Contingency fuel compensates for unforeseen factors such as unforecast winds or routing delays.
- •Contingency fuel must not be less than the percentage of the planned trip fuel specified for the flight.
- •Contingency fuel is a separate requirement from final reserve fuel or holding fuel.
Exam Relevance
PPL students must know how to accurately calculate total fuel requirements, including contingency buffers, to comply with CASR Part 91.
