RegulationsAerodrome Operations
Manoeuvring Area
The manoeuvring area is that part of an aerodrome used for the take-off, landing, and taxiing of aircraft, explicitly excluding aprons. It includes runways, taxiways, and other prepared surfaces used for aircraft movement. At controlled aerodromes, separation of aircraft on the manoeuvring area is a joint responsibility between the pilot and Air Traffic Control (ATC).
Key Points
- •Includes runways, taxiways, and other areas used for take-off, landing, and taxiing — excludes aprons.
- •At controlled aerodromes, ATC provides separation services on the manoeuvring area.
- •Pilots must comply with ATC clearances and maintain situational awareness at all times.
- •At non-controlled aerodromes, pilots are responsible for their own separation using standard procedures and radio calls.
Exam Relevance
Differentiating between the manoeuvring area, apron, and movement area is essential for navigating aerodromes legally and safely.
