Restricted Area

A restricted area is airspace of defined dimensions within which the flight of aircraft is restricted in accordance with specified conditions. Pilots must obtain an ATC clearance or approval from the relevant controlling authority before entering an active restricted area. Restricted area conditional status — RA1, RA2, or RA3 — indicates the likelihood of obtaining a clearance to enter.

Key Points

  • •Flight within a restricted area is permitted only in accordance with specified conditions.
  • •An ATC clearance or approval from the controlling authority is required before entering an active restricted area.
  • •Conditional status ratings (RA1, RA2, RA3) indicate the likelihood of obtaining a clearance to enter the area.
