Flight Rulesfuel management
Minimum Fuel
Minimum fuel is a formal declaration made to air traffic services when an aircraft is committed to land at a specific aerodrome and any change to the existing clearance may result in landing with less than the final reserve fuel. It informs air traffic services (ATS) that an emergency situation is possible if any additional delays occur.
Key Points
- •It is an advisory status, not an immediate emergency situation.
- •Does not automatically grant priority handling from air traffic control.
- •Alerts air traffic services to coordinate with other units regarding the aircraft's fuel state.
Exam Relevance
Differentiating between 'Minimum Fuel' (an advisory) and 'MAYDAY FUEL' (an emergency) is a critical safety and regulatory concept for pilot exams.
