Flight RulesAerodrome Operations
Non-controlled Aerodrome
A non-controlled aerodrome is an aerodrome at which air traffic control (ATC) is not operating, requiring pilots to broadcast their intentions and coordinate their own separation. Pilots must follow specific circuit procedures and use the Common Traffic Advisory Frequency (CTAF) or equivalent to communicate with other traffic.
Key Points
- •No ATC separation is provided at a non-controlled aerodrome; pilots are responsible for their own situational awareness and separation.
- •All turns in the circuit should be to the left unless specified otherwise in the ERSA.
- •Standard radio broadcasts on the CTAF are essential for collision avoidance and traffic awareness.
Exam Relevance
The majority of RPL/PPL flying occurs here, making circuit procedures, entry methods, and radio calls highly testable.
